Marten Missing In Bunaken Waters

MANADO, ZONAUTARA.com – Marten Maneking (56), a resident of Manado Tua Island, Manado City, North Sulawesi Province, who works in Resort Oasis Bunaken, was reported missing in Bunaken waters, at around 16:20 pm, Tuesday (16/1/2018).

The incident started at around 16:00 pm, the victim along with his son-in-law Meniks Panaha (24), plans to return to Manado Tua Island using a small wooden boat commonly called katinting boat. In fact, it was bad weather, but both still push themselves to back to Mando Tua.

About 50 meters from the seashore, katinting boat was hit by waves and wind. The victim the rear while driving boat, then be crashing out and falling into the sea. Meniks trying to find victims by calls his father name but it was useless.

Unfortunately, big waves and wind strong make the victims could not be found. The victim was allegedly lost dragged to 50 meters to the bottom of sea. Maniks returned and informed the problem to Oasis Resort. Oasis Resort then reported to the Bunaken National Park Authority (BTNB) and to Bunaken Government.

Six boats owned by residents and the BTNB boat were immediately searching for about an hour but did not work because of bad weather and getting night. The search continued on Wednesday (17/1/2018), involving The National Search and Rescue Agency of Manado. Sadly, the victim has not been found until dusk, so the search has to be stopped.
