MANADO, ZONAUTARA.com – Zona Utara Team got the first Special Mention in the closing ceremony of Jakarta Editors Lab 2018, at Multimedia Nusantara University (UMN), on Sunday (11/3/2018).
Juries consisting of Irene Jay Liu from Google News Lab, Kuek Ser Kuang Keng from DataN, Yosep Adi Prasetyo from the Press Council of Indonesia, Titi Anggraini from Perludem, and Sarah Toporoff from the Global Editors Network rewarded Mata Mata prototype as one most interesting news room concept that presented by Zona Utara, competing with Katadata who also get the same Special Mention and Tempo who grabbed The Best.
Zona Utara within Jakarta Editors Lab 2018 competes with media such as CNN, The Jakarta Post, Tempo, IDNTimes, Beritagar, Katadata, Liputan6, Radar Bojonegoro, Kabar Makassar, suara.com, kompas.com and UMN.
Chief Editor of the Zona Utara Ronny Adolof Buol did not expect to receive this award. He explained in the second day, the adviser and Jury forced to dismantle the concept that had been prepared.
“We have got stupendous pressure,” said Ronny.
Because of the scope of work that has been built so far in Zona Utara is so highly disciplined, so they are turning the pressure into motivation.
“Just sleeping three hours a day becomes a routine for us. Not dreaming to be the best, because that is not the purpose we are present at the Jakarta Editors Lab. Getting knowledge, sharing experiences, networking, and learning to formulate concepts are the main things for us,” said Ronny.
Mata Desa is a small application that allows villagers to find the right political parties and candidates according to the needs of village.
The concept of Mata Desa becomes a news room prototype. This is an achievement for Zona Utara that has not even a year and who came as underdog team. It becomes extraordinary thing for them.
“We really did not expect to get this achievement. We are just come to study and gain experience from other media. After two days of struggling with the concept, building a prototype, I represent Zona Utara team were given four minutes to presentation Mata Desa to the juries,” he said.
During the question and answer session, he did not expect at all the question from the Chairman of the Press Council Yosep Adi Prasetyo, about the prototype security. But the grip in the Zona Utara Editorial Room for the last 10 months has made him answer complitely the question in a limited time of only a minute.
Added Ronny, Mata Desa is ready to implement by Zona Utara in 167 Villages in South Minahasa District as well as other areas.
Dean of the Faculty of Communication UMN Andre Handoko, hopes Jakarta Editors Labs as a prestigious event held for three days, it can provide memories and knowledge from google and AJI.
“Hopefully, it will bring new nuances in each workplace,” said Andre.
