Wounded Badly, A Celebes Macaque Successfully Be Save By Citizens

MANADO, ZONAUTARA.com – Yaki or Sulawesi crested macaque has an apelike appearance. Despite being critically endangered, crested black macaque are still being hunted down.

A wounded macaque was found by residents in Duasudara plantation area, Girian District, Bitung city, on Tuesday (27/3/2018), at around 10:00 pm.

Head of Madamir District Rio Karamoy explained to Zona Utara reporter, that Yaki had found by his citizens in badly injured condition.

“When they found its Yaki cannot run anymore,” said Karamoy, on Wednesday (28/3/2018).

According to Karamoy, because they know Yaki is protected animal species, so they immediately secured it.

“The citizen reported to North Wangurer Village Chief. And then the report proceeded to me, “said Karamoy.

This incident immediately proceeded to Ambassador Yaki Indonesia Khouni Lomban Rawung.

“He contacted to Save Yaki Tasik Oki Foundation for medical assistance and more serious handling,” said Karamoy.

Team from Tasik Oki with the Veterinarian had come for medical and moved Yaki to a safer place.

Known, the residents who found Yaki they are Sutirman, Christian Martamanis, and Okto Kadato. They are residents from North Wangurer Village, Madidir District, Bitung City.

Yaki or Celebes macaque is an endemic species of Indonesia which found only on the island of North Sulawesi and some islands around it.

Yaki is the largest type of macaque on Sulawesi Island and has a characteristic of red buttocks. They are scattered at some point in the primary forest of Tangkoko Nature Reserve, especially in the northern Tangkoko Nature Reserve of Batuangus.
