ZONAUTARA.com – Environmental education develop by Manengkel Solidarity has a program called Sekolah Sei Pante or seashore, in order to develop healthy, creative, intellectually curious student in preservation of marine ecosystem.
This seashore school concept is located in Manado city, North Sulawesi province, Indonesia. There is some area that apply that concept such as, North Minahasa regency in four villages, namely Tanah Putih, Talise Tambun, Tarabitan, and Pulisan; Bohowo village in Manado city; and South Minahasa regency in three villages namely Arakan, Raprap, and Sondaken.
Elis Lengkong as a tutor in the school said that, “this program was begin in 2016 establish cooperation with schools in every region. We already prepare the material in a knowledge modules about marine coral ecosystem, marine protected areas, coral, sea grass, and mangrove”.
The learning process is so fun because the students are children that supported by the people in Manengkel Solidarity. There are three stages of education in the school. The first one is ‘messenger’ where the children are taught the material about environment including ecosystem, waste processing, journalism, and disaster mitigation. After that, stage about ‘transformer’ in expected that the children would be more love with environment surely marine ecosystem. Well, at the highest stage the children will be ‘agent of change’, they could be the people who counter the environmental damage.
Some school in North Sulawesi has doing this seashore program. Moreover a college offers a free lecture for anyone who had be participant in seashore school.
