Second World War Monument, Allied Troops Trace In Manado City

MANADO, ZONAUTARA.com – Monument has height 40 meters stands within Evangelical Christian Church in Minahasa (GMIM) Sentrum Manado parking area. Inside a space of about 15 meters and fenced with iron chains, the monument is Second World War Memorial.

In the synopsis that stands in front of the monument explained, that the monument was built by Allied Army / NICA, and Ir Van Den Bosch as a architect. The monument was built around 1946-1947, it is built to mark all those killed in the Pacific war, both from the allied armies, Japanese soldiers and civilians.

This monument was stand up by four pillars. At a height about 30 meters, there is a cube-shaped section and four casket wheels. This square-shaped section of the cube is a representation of the coffin, also a place contained corpse’s ash whose victim of the Pacific war.

This cube is also interpreted as a symbol of submission of spirits from those who died to God Almighty. Meanwhile, the four casket wheels are dividing symbol between humans who lived with those who have died.

Manado City Government creates this Second World War Monument as one of tourist destination in Manado City.

Visitors will not be difficult to find the location. Simply find the location of GMIM Sentrum Church located in Manado City Center or near pasar 45.
